The lurchers were cold, thirsty and very scared before being discovered by a man walking his own dog last Tuesday.
Gemma Davies, Ferne’s fund-raising and marketing support worker, said: “It is thought that the two dogs had been dumped late at night in the freezing cold.
“They were brought to us in a terrible condition and in desperate need of care and attention.”
The puppies, now called Mork and Mindy, are thought to be around two-and-a-half months old and are a little nervous – not surprising considering the ordeal they had been through.
Gemma added: “Being puppies they will need a home where someone has plenty of time for basic training and socialisation.”
The kennels at Ferne are currently full with a variety of dogs from a pair of Jack Russells to a Belgian Shepherd cross.
Anyone interested in adopting a dog should call the sanctuary on 01460-65214.
Dogs can be viewed by appointment only.
The Ferne Family Fun Day was held at Ferne Animal sanctuary on Wednesday from 11am to 4pm and spurred on by the sunshine, drew in impressive crowds.
