Purchase Ledger Clerk

£8.08 per hour
21 hours per week  - to be discussed
Reports to Finance Manager

Purpose of the Job

To ensure assist the Finance Manager / team at Ferne Animal Sanctuary.

Tasks & Responsibilities:

Input invoices on Supplier’s accounts using Sage

Reconcile Supplier’s statements to ledger

Make payments as per payment schedule

Resolution of queries with both Suppliers and Management Team

General Purchase Ledger tasks

Ensure all payments are allocated on the ledger in a timely manner

Ensure all credit notes on statement are utilised

Filing of payments etc.

The ideal candidate for the Purchase Ledger Clerk position will have the following skills, experience and qualifications:

  • A minimum of 2 years recent experience within Purchase Ledger

  • Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Packages

  • Excellent communication skills including both verbal and written

  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team

  • Good time management and organisational skills

  • Strong customer service and relationship building skills

  • A minimum of 5 GCSEs grade A - C including Maths and English

  • The ability to prioritise

  • Good attention to detail and accuracy

Part Time Cleaner 

16 hours per week – Mon 3.5 hrs, tues,weds, thurs 3 hours and fri 3.5hrs.
£7.11 per hour 
Reports to Estate Manager

Purpose of the Job

To ensure the Sanctuary’s offices, toilets, kitchens, staff rest rooms, outbuildings and public areas are cleaned to the required standards.   To report any site maintenance requirements to the Estates Manager.

Cleaning duties including (but not restricted to);

Emptying bins


Mopping Floors

Polishing and dusting

Clean toilet areas

Clean internal and external windows and doors

Clean walls, woodwork, windowsills as required 

Key tasks and responsibilities;

  • To provide a high quality cleaning service on the Sanctuary premises.

  • To ensure the front of house on-site catering facilities are kept in clean in accordance with food hygiene standards

  • Identify and undertake ad-hoc cleaning programs as and when required

  • To ensure all sundry supplies, for example hand towels are kept in adequate supply in the on-site facilities

  • To work within all areas in a professional manner

  • To attend training sessions as deemed necessary

  • To attend internal or external meetings as required (minimal)

  • To undertake all sundry and cleaning product stock ordering, control and rotation

  • To observe and comply with Health and Safety policy and procedure

  • To undertake any other reasonable management request within your skill and competence

  • To act as a key holder and uphold security on site in line with standards

  • To assist with site cleanliness prior to and during major events

Assistant Charity Shop Manager

£7.27 PER HOUR
14 hours per week / 2 day rota

 Due to expansion the Sanctuary is seeking to recruit a highly talented Assistant Charity Shop Manager with business acumen and a real passion for the retail environment. 

As the Assistant Charity Shop Manager you will be responsible for the day to day operations and achievement of sales and profit targets.   You will have the ability to lead and inspire staff and volunteers ensuring the delivery of exceptional customer service.  You will act as an ambassador for Ferne Animal Sanctuary building on the excellent brand. 

It is essential you have management experience.  You will demonstrate energy, flexibility, innovation and strong interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of people.   You will have excellent organisational abilities and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages.

Ferne Animal Sanctuary has been saving the lives of unwanted and abandoned animals for over 70 years.

Ferne Animal Sanctuary strives to provide care and refuge for unwanted domestic & farm animals. The Sanctuary rehomes dogs & cats within a 30 mile radius of Ferne. Some horses & ponies are available for permanent loan; all other animals remain at the Sanctuary for the rest of their lives. We rely entirely on donations & legacies to continue its work. Some of the animals come to Ferne because they have been neglected or are no longer wanted. Others come to us because of circumstantial changes of their owners. All animals are given the care, attention & TLC they need to enjoy a happy life while they are at Ferne.
