Here at Ferne Animal Sanctuary, the feed room is one of the most important spaces on our site. For many of our beloved residents – from guinea pigs and rabbits to pigs, as well as our older sheep and goats who need extra care and nutrition – it’s where their food is safely stored and lovingly prepared every single day.

Why the Feed Room Matters

Proper nutrition is at the heart of animal welfare and our feed room ensures that every resident receives the right diet in a clean and controlled environment. It’s a hub of daily activity and a vital part of maintaining the health and happiness of the animals in our care.

The Problem: A Deteriorating Structure

The current feed room has seen better days, and was installed back in 2004 serving us well for many years. However, over time, the wooden framework has deteriorated and is now rotting. This creates serious concerns, including:

  • Increased risk of pests accessing stored food

  • Potential contamination and infestation

  • Threats to the overall health and welfare of our animals

Simply put, the space is no longer fit for purpose, and action is urgently needed.

Our Solution: A New Prefabricated Feed Room

To address this issue in the most efficient and cost-effective way, we plan to replace the existing structure with a modern prefabricated building. This new feed room will:

  • Provide a clean, hygienic environment for food storage and preparation

  • Prevent pest access and contamination

  • Improve overall safety and efficiency for our team

How Much Do We Need?

The total cost of this essential upgrade is £10,000.

  • We aim to secure £7,000 through grant funding

  • We are launching a public appeal to raise the remaining £3,000

If we’re fortunate enough to exceed our target, any additional funds will go directly towards this project, reducing the amount we need to source through grants.
