When people think about supporting an animal rescue, they often imagine funding new facilities, specialist equipment, or exciting enrichment projects. While those things certainly make a difference, the reality is that the greatest need is often far less visible.
The everyday veterinary care that keeps rescue animals healthy is one of the biggest and most important expenses we face.
Every animal deserves the chance to live a happy, healthy life. That begins with routine treatments such as health checks, vaccinations, dental care, and neutering. These essential procedures may not be glamorous, but they are the foundation of responsible animal welfare and give vulnerable dogs and cats the best possible start on their journey to a loving home.
As any pet owner knows, veterinary treatment is expensive. The costs increase even further when caring for elderly animals, many of whom arrive with age-related health conditions that require additional medical attention.
Right now, around one in four cats on our waiting list is over twelve years old. These older cats deserve comfort, compassion, and a second chance just as much as any younger animal. Sadly, with limited resources and rising veterinary costs, we cannot always help every animal that needs us. Making those decisions is one of the hardest parts of rescue work.

By supporting our Essential Care Appeal, you are helping cover the cost of vital dental procedures, neutering, and other essential treatments that prepare rescue dogs and cats for their forever homes. Neutering is especially important in helping reduce the growing number of unwanted cats, preventing future suffering before it begins.
During the last financial year alone, we spent more than £25,000 on dental treatment and neutering for the animals in our care. These unavoidable costs ensure every pet receives the medical attention they need before starting the next chapter of their lives.
Animals like Bill, whose dental treatment cost over £1,000, and Pearl, who will be neutered once her kittens are weaned, are only able to receive this care because of the kindness of supporters who understand that every animal deserves another chance.
Every donation, no matter the size, helps provide essential veterinary care for rescue animals in need. If we exceed our fundraising target, every additional pound will go directly towards covering further veterinary costs for the dogs and cats waiting for their forever families.
